Maarlab is the tech startup of the Spring Hoteles group. Its platform lets users book flights-and-hotels packages from the group.
The challenge
The starting point
They already had a site to list and book their packages, but it had been built in little time and with a small team with minimal frontend knowledge. The result was a fragile, slow and hard-to-maintain base.
The infrastructure had to be rebuilt from the ground up without breaking the business: modernize the bundling, unify styles and identity, improve load times and, above all, make it look impeccable on mobile, which had been overlooked.
The solution
How I solved it
I modernized the whole internal bundling and tooling and added current technologies for styling and visual identity, so building new visual features became fast. I set up a reusable component library that made everything more maintainable.
I removed a huge number of unnecessary libraries by leaning on native browser APIs, which lightened the app and boosted performance. Build and deploy times dropped from 30 to 5 minutes, and load and mobile experience improved dramatically.
